Captains’ Welcome

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR 2021 CAPTAINS, AILISH AND DECLAN.

We are overwhelmed by the good wishes and welcome we have received since our nominations. It is a real honour to have been selected to represent Skerries Golf Club by you the members, we will do everything that we can to have a good golfing year in 2021.

Our job as Captain’s is made so much easier by our hard-working committees, Men’s and Ladies committees looking after our golfing requirements, our Committee of Management making the hard decisions and keeping our club on track and in a good financial position. Not to forget all the sub-committees and volunteers that work in our club in so many ways. Our club would not be what it is today without members giving their time, we thank you all and if you would like to get involved in any way please do talk to us.

Declan Bowers Skerries Golf Club Captain 2021We are very fortunate to have a wonderful staff in Skerries Golf Club, the commitment and excellence in carrying out their duties are obvious for all to see. Timely communications and good Ailish Humphreys Lady Captain Skerries Golf Club 2021information from the admin staff, our catering and bar team looking after us very well and our course in superb condition, arguably becoming one of the best courses in North County Dublin.

Skerries Golf club truly values our sponsors, year after year they support our club, in Open Weeks, Golf Classics and other events. Sponsorship is a vital form of income to our club so if you or your company are in a position to run an event or contribute in any way, please let us know.

As your Captain’s we are focused on the continued development of our Junior section, working alongside the Junior subcommittee, Junior convenors, and our club professional Bobby Kinsella. A programme for junior coaching has been developed and will roll out in 2021. We ask you to encourage the Junior members when you can and if you have some spare time that you could give to the Juniors or Cadets it would be greatly appreciated.

Teams in 2021, hopefully, we can get our teams back into Interclub competitions this year. It was a greatly missed part of our calendar in 2020. We wish all our team managers and panels well in 2021 and we hope that you will join us on the Courses Home and Away to support our teams.

We are all looking forward to getting back to normal conditions where we can have great golf, club championships, mixed competitions, goats and nannies and social events. We will do our utmost to have as normal a year as possible however member safety and the safety of our staff is paramount whilst we still are learning to live with Covid. We will have to be patient as we all try to get through this pandemic together.

We would love to see you all at our Social events during the year and with the Course in such good condition, it is time to show it off, so please bring guests to play the course and enjoy our facilities.

We are so looking forward to the challenge in 2021, we intend to continue the work that was started back in 1905 by our founder members, we have a responsibility to them and to you, the current members to keep improving our club so it will be stronger and better for others to enjoy when our time is over.

Please join us in 2021 on the fairways and in the clubhouse, remember Captaincy is not about us, it is all about you, so we look forward to playing golf with you and enjoying your company throughout the year.

Yours in Golf,

Lady Captain Ailish Humphreys
