Final of the North Leinster Mixed Foursomes – this Saturday in Headfort

Best of Luck to our team playing in the Final of the North Leinster Mixed Foursomes competition in Headfort Golf Club on this coming Saturday, 31st August 2019.

Skerries plays Rathcore Golf Club with tee off scheduled for 2:30 PM.

Managers, Peter and Mary Counihan, are hoping for support from as many members as possible. The old course at Headfort is a mature parkland layout and a very nice place to spend an afternoon. Why not come along and cheer on our team of:
Pat and Catherine Noone; Peter and Vivienne Donnelly; David and Elizabeth Smith; Seamus and Rhona Mulholland; Michael and Elizabeth McNamara.
Our substitute pairings are Paul and Antoinette Boyd and Pat and Deirdre Durkan.

Panel members, Phillip and Elaine McGloughlin, holidaying in the sun, have played a big part in getting us to this stage, as has Club Professional, Bobby Kinsella, particularly with some expert guidance last Thursday in Headfort. Many thanks to all.

Peter and Mary have enjoyed the journey with this great team who have given their best efforts over the summer for Skerries Golf Club. We all wish them the very best of luck.

Irish Mixed Foursomes Team unlucky against Beaverstown

Hard luck to Skerries

who went down 3.5-1.5 to Beaverstown in the second round of the Irish Mixed Foursomes on Sunday.

The standard of golf was excellent and a few putts here and there was all that separated the two teams in the end.  Best of luck to Beaverstown for the rest of the competition.

Thanks to a great Skerries panel.  Photo shows our home team on the first tee.

Irish Mixed Foursomes team win a nail-biting match against Malahide

Well done to the Irish Mixed Foursomes team who won a nail-biting match against Malahide Golf Club on Sunday 31st March.

The third and final match in Malahide went down to the fifth extra hole with super golf played by both teams. In the end the Skerries pair of Sylvia Alcock and Miley Plunkett held their nerve to secure the vital third win of the tie.

Earlier (much earlier!) Joan O’Brien & Martin Coleman and Noreen Giblin & Peter Kenny had won in Skerries playing some great golf.
This left the three matches in Malahide to decide the tie. Skerries met very strong opposition as we have come to expect from Malahide and the first two matches were lost with Aisling Ryan & Mark O’Donoghue and Bridgeen Kiernan & Paul O’Donoghue giving the home side a good battle.
It was two matches all with Sylvia and Miley’s match suddenly becoming the one to watch. WhatsApp was used to great effect allowing those in Skerries to follow the match blow by blow and delight in a great win in the end – Final result 3:2 to Skerries.

Next up is Beaverstown Golf Club with three matches in Skerries and two away.

Irish Mixed Foursomes v Balcarrick Round 2

Irish Mixed Foursomes Team Achieve Another Great Win

The Irish Mixed Foursomes team had a great win on Saturday 29th April against Balcarrick. It was yet another exciting nail biting finish with two pairings going down the 19th in Skerries to win the match (Nuala McMahon and Peter Kenny and Bridgeen Kiernan and Michael Weldon who had been three down with four to play) with Sheila McGloughlin and David Ward winning their match on the 17th – three great home wins.

The away pairings of Kingsley Lewis and Joan O Brien and Martin Coleman and Jen O Loghlen met very strong competition from the Balcarrick home pairings and unfortunately were beaten, but put up a good fight.

Well done to all the players, not forgetting the nerve-wracked team managers, Chris Alcock and Grainne O’Connor, for all their hard work and commitment.

The next round is against Westmanstown Golf Club and will take place before 20th May 2017.

Irish Mixed Foursomes v Malahide Golf Club

Our Irish Mixed Foursomes team with two pairings at home and three away recorded a great victory on Sunday 2nd April 2017 against the 2015 Leinster Champions, Malahide Golf Club. It all came down to the last putt on the 18th hole in Malahide where Paul O’Donoghue and Bridgeen Kiernan secured the vital away win. They were ably backed up in Malahide by Kingsley Lewis and Joan O’Brien and Martin Coleman and Ronnie O’Loghlen.

At home in Skerries GC, Sheila McLoughlin playing with David Ward and Peter Kenny playing with Nuala McMahon (who also won with last putt on the 18th!!) secured the two home wins.

It was a great performance by the whole team and congratulations to all players and their nerve wrecked team managers. A big thank you to all those that supported our team both in Skerries and Malahide Golf Club.

It’s Balcarrick Golf Club in the next round which has to be played on or before 30th April 2017.
