Senior Cup Metropolitan Qualifier

The Skerries Senior Cup team travelled to Royal Dublin on the 24th of June to compete against the 22 other teams vying for the 2 Metropolitan qualifying spots available.

The team consisted of Kingsley Lewis (KL), Harry McHugh(HMH), Sam Devey (SD), Mick Ahern (MH), Brian Christie (BC), Brian Leonard (BL) and David Garrigan (DG).

Corballis golf club, who were well used to the tough links conditions that greeted the team on the 1st tee, provided the Skerries team with their first test. There were a number of tight games across this match however the Skerries team (KL, HMH, MH, BC & DG) prevailed and overcame Corballis by a score of 3.5 – 1.5.

The next round saw us come up against a tougher opposition in the form of Milltown golf club, with a number of well known & seasoned individuals making up their panel, incl. 1 ex professional. While solid golf was played by each of the Skerries team members (KL, HMH, DG, BC, SD) throughout the matches (Brian Christie coming back from 5dwn to 1down), Milltown squeezed through to victory with a 3.5 – 1.5 score line representing same. Milltown went on to beat Hollywood Lakes in Final no.1 and take 1 of the 2 Metropolitan spots that were up for grabs again demonstrating the tough opposition that the Skerries team came up against.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those that supported us on the day, individuals that caddied for players and of course the players themselves for making the commitment to the senior cup team and all that this entails.

Regards,

David Garrigan
Senior Cup Team Manager

Forrest Little had 3 matches at home and used this to their advantage beating us in all 3 matches. The 2 matches at home, were called in on the 12th where both matches were all square. The enthusiasm and commitment from the team was very evident and to get this far in the competition is a credit to both the manager and the dedication of the team.

Irish Mixed Foursomes v Balcarrick Round 2

Irish Mixed Foursomes Team Achieve Another Great Win

The Irish Mixed Foursomes team had a great win on Saturday 29th April against Balcarrick. It was yet another exciting nail biting finish with two pairings going down the 19th in Skerries to win the match (Nuala McMahon and Peter Kenny and Bridgeen Kiernan and Michael Weldon who had been three down with four to play) with Sheila McGloughlin and David Ward winning their match on the 17th – three great home wins.

The away pairings of Kingsley Lewis and Joan O Brien and Martin Coleman and Jen O Loghlen met very strong competition from the Balcarrick home pairings and unfortunately were beaten, but put up a good fight.

Well done to all the players, not forgetting the nerve-wracked team managers, Chris Alcock and Grainne O’Connor, for all their hard work and commitment.

The next round is against Westmanstown Golf Club and will take place before 20th May 2017.
