Joint Captains’ Charity Raffle – Extended until we are all back playing

Due to the phased return to golf

we have decided to extend the Captains’ Charity Raffle until the distance restrictions have been lifted and we have all had a chance to return to playing golf.  To those who have already purchased their ticket, thank you for your patience.

As part of our ongoing fundraising efforts, …

Captains Austin and Trudy have agreed to offer a 2021 subscription as part of their Joint Captains’ Charity Raffle.

In a time when fundraising income is difficult to maintain for all charities, we will donate 30% of the money raised by this raffle to the Skerries Branch of the Society of Saint Vincent De Paul.

The 2020 Raffle will have a top prize of €1,000.

Our target is a minimum of 250 ticket sales at €40.  It is open to Members and Non-Members alike.  The winner can either take a prize of €1,000 or, if a Club Member, offset it against the subscription portion of their 2021 membership fee.

In order to purchase a ticket Members should open the timesheet (in the usual way) for 2nd August and enter their name in a space as for a club competition.  To enter the draw more than once, do so by booking in a guest on the same line.

Members should ensure they have enough money on their card to pay for their entry.  As a Member, you can put money on your card (as per the email that issued to all members on 23rd April) by using the Club V1 App.  Alternatively, you can ring the office on Monday’s or Thursdays to have money put on your card or email admin@skerriesgolfclub.ieand the office will call you back.

Non-Members should enter via this link:   https://www.brsgolf.com/skerries/opens_home.php

Time Sheets for Monday May 18th 2020

In preparation for our return to golf on May 18th 2020, the Committee of Management, Men’s, Ladies and Junior’s committees have all had meetings this week with a view of outlining our conditions of golf, these will be in addition to the Covid 19 return to golf guidelines from the GUI and ILGU.

We are finalizing this document and will communicate it to you shortly.

Time sheets for Monday, May 18th will open on Thursday, May 14th @ 4 pm.

Initially, we are playing 9 holes only in 3 Balls, on both the front and back 9 with 14-minute time slot intervals.

Booking must be made on time sheets, you may not enter onto the course without having a BRS booking, this is to assist with Contact Tracing should it be required.

Please note: Adult or Junior members that have not paid or engaged with the club regarding this year’s subscription will be blocked from booking on the time sheet and playing on our course.

Some Superb Aerial views of the Golf Course

Take a look at these great photos

Taken using a Gopro 3+Black camera mounted on a DJI Phantom 1 drone on Sunday 3rd May, courtesy of Anthony Hand.

In particular, the two higher level shots offer unique views south (from 225 feet above the first tee) and north (from 200 feet above the fifth).

Hopefully we will see the course from the ground very soon!

New ARRIVAL

After many years of struggling along with our rough cutter, we have taken delivery of the new Toro 47000 rough mower, the timing could not have been better as the old mower finally packed up in recent weeks.
This new mower has 11’ (3.35m) width blades and can cut up to 10.6 acres per hour, this means we can now cut our rough-in 2.5 man-days as opposed to 7.5 man-days with the old machine.
A great step forward for our course, congratulations to the course committee and Carr Golf for the time spent investigating the various options and securing the machine.
We are all missing being out golfing and enjoying the wonderful surroundings of our course, see attached the photo of the Cherry Blossom in full bloom on the 8th fairway, hopefully,  it won’t be too long before we are out on the course again.

Keep Safe.

Essential greenkeeping maintenance is permitted.

The GUI and ILGU will in the meantime continue to engage with the governments and state agencies in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland on the need for supports to be available for golf clubs to recover from the current crisis.

Clubs are reminded that support information is available at  https://www.golfnet.ie/news/golfnet/4648/support-and-guidance-for-clubs

Club Lotto continues to operate online on a normal weekly basis

In the overall scheme of our current crisis, our priorities are understandably elsewhere and hopefully all of our Members and their loved ones are doing well.

However, if at all possible, Members are encouraged to participate in the Club Lotto, which will continue to operate online on a normal weekly basis.

The Lotto is an important form of on-going revenue for the Club. Payments to winners will issue once working restrictions are lifted and normal operations have recommenced.

Course Closure with Immediate effect until April 19th 2020

Following today’s recommendation from the GUI, ILGU and our Government, the Committee of Management has decided to close our course and practice grounds with immediate effect until April 19th 2020, see the GUI & ILGU notice below.

GUI & ILGU Recommend Golf Clubs & Facilities To Close

Urgent response requires all golf clubs, courses and facilities to close

Following the recent announcements by the UK and Irish Governments in relation to the coronavirus pandemic, the GUI and ILGU recommend that all golf clubs, practice facilities and courses across the island close with immediate effect until April 19th 2020.

While golf is an outdoor sport that allows players to exercise in the fresh air, the message is clear. People must stay at home to help to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Unions recognise the need clubs may have for business support at this time. We will monitor options available and engage with the relevant sporting bodies in due course to make representations for our member clubs.

We know that these decisions are difficult ones to make, but right now, it is our shared responsibility to prioritise the health of our local communities by working together to follow the respective Government guidelines. In doing so, this will ensure that we get the opportunity to play the game that we all love as soon as it is safe to do so.

For security and essential maintenance purposes, greenkeeping staff can still attend work. All work must be carried out in strict accordance with government guidelines on physical (social) distancing. Clubs should divide course staff into two teams where possible and if one becomes unavailable, the other team will still be okay to work.

You will appreciate that this is a very fluid situation with new developments almost daily. We will continue to liaise with the appropriate authorities, and will ensure that our clubs are kept informed as to recommended best practice at all times.
