AIG Jimmy Bruen Shield qualifier

The best of luck to Skerries Golf Club

playing in the AIG Jimmy Bruen Shield qualifier on Saturday 15th June.

We are delighted to be hosting a qualifier this year and look forward to great support from Members for our team playing on home ground opposite Balbriggan Golf Club from 8:00.

Eight teams will tee it up on Saturday morning with the top two going head to head in match play from 8:00 on Sunday 16th June.

Jimmy Bruen teams comprise five Foursomes pairings whose combined handicaps cannot be less than 15 and individual handicaps not less than 5 (in 2018).

Saturday’s format is Foursomes Medal Play (Strokes) and the aggregate of the best four cards from five is the team score.

Golfing Union of Ireland message re deal with Flogas

The Leinster branch of the GUI inform us that

Flogas and the Golfing Union of Ireland have confirmed very special business-to-business electricity rates for golf clubs located in the Republic of Ireland.

GUI Members with their own business or those responsible for energy overheads in their place of employment, and sub-contracted services, like catering and maintenance within golf clubs, can all benefit from up to 15% cheaper electricity with Flogas.

Golf Course is a Haven for our Wild Birds

Skerries resident and Birdwatch Ireland member, Frank Prendergast, walked the course on Tuesday morning and identified (by song and/or sight) the list of birds in the accompanying pdf.

There are small photos of each species, downloaded from Birdwatch Ireland’s website and the file includes links to their detailed information on each bird.

Later in June Frank will walk the course at evening time and hopes to identify some of the shyer birds by hearing the call of their newly hatched.
We are hoping to repeat the exercise later in the year and into winter to build up a fuller database of species, whose song and flight we can enjoy and appreciate as we play golf and develop our golf course.
