This years Club Corporate Golf Day is on Friday 27th May 2022. We are very fortunate to have Frank Keane Motors sponsor this event this year.

1. Friday 22nd April – The 2022 “9 and dine” got off to flying start. There were a large number of entrants, the food was excellent and a great night of music and fun was had by all. A big thank you to the sponsors Kube and congratulations to the winners 1st (on countback) Ann and Mick Ahern, 2nd Joan and Robert Kehoe.
2. Friday 29th April – Matt Murphy Benefit Day
This fundraiser is almost booked out. Please note there will be volunteers managing the car park for the day so please follow their directions. The practice ground will be closed all day as it is required for car parking. If you have any queries please contact Chris Alcock or Brian Sherwin for details.
3. Sunday 1st May – Short Game Area Launch
Join Stan Pyke, Kingsley Lewis and Club Captains for the formal opening of the Short Game area at 4pm on Sunday 1st May. Our Club Pro Bobby will give a short game masterclass at the launch.
4. Sunday 1st May – Skerries Youth Support Services
Are running a 12-hour Static Cycle fundraiser from 8am-8pm in Floraville. As always, they would like people to come and join in and support
5. Friday 6th May – Martin Browne testimonial day.
Format 4 person rumble and full singles handicap apply. For persons with no golf handicap. Maximum: men 18, women 28. Please check the timesheet for available slots

Loading...As you will be aware the surface at the back of the 17th green has been bad for quite a while.
A sub-surface investigation of the green has been carried out and the COM is advised that the roots of the Poplar trees that surround the back and side of the green have infested the green.
Included with this post are the survey photos of the damage caused to the green by the roots of these trees.
We were told that tree roots generally grow to the width of the crown of the tree but on Poplars they can spread 50 to 60 metres from the tree. Poplars are thirsty trees and the capillary type roots shown in the photos are part of the root system that have invaded the green, growing into pipes and drains, sucking away both the moisture and the nutrients from the fertiliser put on the green.
No amount of watering at night or hand watering during the day has helped the surface recover.
The COM has been advised that the Poplar is not a recommended species to have on a golf course for all of the above reasons. Unfortunately, we have 4 of these trees beside the 17th and they are destroying our green.
The Committee of Management has decided to address this issue in two ways.
Short Term (Early May)
Dig a trench at the back and right side of green. The purpose of this trench is to break as much as possible of the attacking roots which will give the green some much needed respite.
Long Term
Apply for a tree felling licence to remove the Poplars around the 17th Green. The Licence will also request permission to remove some if not all of the Poplars at the back of the 14th Green. The awarding of the licence can take up to 6 months to be granted. It is planned that when the licence is granted that the removal of the Poplars will be part of the winter programme late 2022/early 2023. All of this work will be done in house by our own staff who have been trained for this work.
The COM deeply regrets that it must stipulate the removal of these landmark trees but this has been deemed necessary to try and save the green. It is intended that any trees removed will be replaced by suitable native trees.

Loading...Skerries Youth Support Services will be running a 12hr Static Cycle fundraiser on Sunday 1st May (Bank Holiday weekend) in Floraville. Funds raised from the cycle will go towards the running of our counselling service, SYSS offers a free and confidential counselling service for any young person from the ages of 12 – 24yrs, who is experiencing challenges to their mental health, no referral needed. Just call 089 6167222 to make an appointment.

You can enter either via HowDidIDo and ClubV1 Apps or via the computer in the Pro Shop.
The 1st round will complete by mid-May and the Final in September. Always a great club competition so get your entry in.
10 years ago the idea of a short game area was proposed by Stan Pyke and Kingsley Lewis with many other members through club activities, fundraising, volunteering etc have made their vision a reality. The club now has a first-class short game area which will be of huge benefit to all members, including club Teams, Juniors, new members, Women in Golf. Join Stan, Kingsley and the club captains on the 1st May @4pm for the “official” opening. More details to follow….
Reminder next Friday is the start of Open Mixed Scotch Foursomes. The timesheet opens Thursday 14th @ 7.30pm
