Skills Development Programme

Skills Development Programme is up and running.

The 2018 Short Game Clinics are underway with Club Professional, Bobby Kinsella, taking groups of Members for lessons in Putting, Chipping, Pitching and Bunker play. More than 80 Members have signed up for the clinics – a great response indeed.

The Short Game Clinics represent the first phase of a ‘Comprehensive Golf Skills Development Programme’, identified as a strategic goal in our Strategic Plan, ‘Skerries Golf Club 2022’.

Recommendations relating to the programme were developed by a Task Force, convened under the Strategic Plan Implementation Framework, involving Members and the Club Professional, in December 2017.

Based on experience gained in the delivery of these clinics, the Task Force will make further recommendations, which we hope will lead to a skills development programme, covering all aspects of the game, aimed at maximising the potential of club golfers of all ages and the success of our Club teams.

Golfnet – and how it works !

It’s that time of year again when you will want to plan your golfing year ahead and get your handicap down!

Your GUI / ILGU member card contains your unique member number and you need this for a variety of functions, one of which is for logging onto www.golfnet.ie and checking your handicap.

How do I access my handicap?

If you have not registered your details on the Golfnet site you will have to do this first.

Go to https://www.golfnet.ie/user-registration

You will need
– Your current GUI/ILGU member number, located on the back of your member card
– Your current PIN, also located on the back of your member card
– Your email address, which is entered twice to make sure we get it right

When you enter these, click on ‘Send Verification Email’. Within a few minutes an email will be sent to the address provided above with further instructions on how to create a password and get started.

If you have already registered on the new site and set up a new password, go directly to www.golfnet.ie and click ‘Login’ on the top right side of the screen.

I can’t find my member card – what should I do?
Please notify the club that it is lost so they can order you a new one. When you get it you can complete registration.

I get an error message when I click on ‘Send Verification Email’ – what’s wrong?
In most cases your member number and PIN do not match or the PIN has expired. You need to use the PIN from the most recent membership card issued. The correct card is a joint GUI & ILGU card with AIG branding on it. If your card does not have the AIG branding then you need to get the club to order a new card for you.

You may also get an error saying your member number has not been found. In this case please contact your club as you may have been deactivated in error.

Will the password I had on the old Golfnet site work?
Your old password will not allow you to login. We upgraded the security of passwords so we require all users to choose new, more secure passwords.

I haven’t got an email from Golfnet – what’s wrong?
You should check your Spam / Junk mail folders to see if the email has been filtered there.

There have been instances where emails sent to certain domains like Hotmail have not arrived. Golfnet has no control over this and in these instances we can see the emails leaving our servers. If this happens, we suggest you try an alternative email address.

I used my email address to setup another account (wife, sister, brother, husband, daughter) and now I can’t register my own account – what do I do?
Golfnet now requires each user to have an email address registered that is unique to that account. It ensures we can reset passwords to the correct user and improves overall security. You will need to use an alternative email address.

I can’t click on the link you sent me – what’s wrong?
Some email providers prevent you from clicking directly on links in emails. In these cases you need to copy and paste the link into your browser. The link we send you expires after 24 hours. If the email is older than this please start the registration process again. Clicking on an old link will not allow you to complete registration and you will get an error message.

If you need any assistance with this, see https://www.golfnet.ie/news/gui/153/help-your-guide-for-golfnet or you can email support@golfnet.ie

Captains’ Drive-In 2018

Monday January 1st 2018 saw in excess of 150 members of Skerries Golf Club braving the bitter cold at the first tee to witness Lady Captain Ciara Boylan and Mens’ Captain Dominic Henry take the first drives of the 2018 Season.

Girls’ Captain Sadhbh Culleton and Boys Captain Ethan McGarry both delivered their respective drives with considerable aplomb to the great delight of their families and many friends.   To Ciara and Dominic’s great relief they both sent their balls sailing down the first fairway to tumultuous applause and cheering.

After the customary photos of the Captains with their respective families, everyone retired to the Club House, and most enjoyed a complementary hot beverage to get the blood flowing again. Ciara, followed by Dominic then addressed those assembled to thank all who has supported them and to outline, their plans to ensure the club continues on it’s growth path in terms of the social, golfing, and financial ambitions they aspire to. Both particularly emphasised the importance of encouraging new members to join and to unstintingly support Junior Golfers – who are after all – the future of the club.

A wonderful afternoon of banter and celebrations ensued, with most of those in attendance enjoying a beautiful four course dinner – the first opportunity for many to sample the considerable culinary expertise of the Club’s new caterer Thomas Fitzpatrick. Music and singing continued late into the evening and the day unquestionably ranks as one of – if not the most – successful and enjoyable Drive Ins the club has witnessed in many years.

Attractive membership packages are available to those considering joining our friendly and welcoming club. A simple phone call to the office on (01) 8491567 is all that’s needed to get the ball rolling. The Club wishes Ciara, Dominic, Sadhbh and Ethan every success and most of all an enjoyable and fulfilling golfing season for 2018.
