2017 Ladies 9 Hole Qualifying Handicap Matrix

You may be aware that the Ladies Course SSS (Standard Scratch Score) has changed from 74 to 75. As we play 9 Hole Qualifying Competitions in our Club, this has had an impact on our 9 Hole Qualifying handicap calculations.

We have generated new “Ready Reckoners” to allow you to select your correct handicap when playing 9 Hole Qualifying golf competitions. You will need to know your Exact Handicap when selecting your 9 Hole Qualifying handicap (you will find your Exact Handicap on the Handicap Board in the office in the locker room or you can also check Golfnet).

Ready Reckoners have been placed as follows:-

  1. On the 2nd board on the left in the ladies locker room office (just past the window).
  2. On the wall beside the swipe-in computer in the Pro shop.
  3. In the Ladies section of the Club website.

2017 9 Hole Qualifying Handicap Matrix

If you are interested in working out your own 9 Hole Qualifying Handicap, this is the calculation (as specified in CONGU Paragraph 22.3).

[Exact Handicap + Nine-Hole SSS – (Nine-Hole Par x2)] / 2

In Skerries our Nine Hole SSS is 75 and our Nine Hole Par is 34.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any member of the Handicap Committee and we will be happy to help.

Wire to Wire for Maria Dunne at Co. Louth

Maria Dunne (Skerries) led wire to wire to claim the 2017 Irish Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship. With a record opening 66 (-9) on Friday, Dunne took a one shot lead from playing partner Gemma Clews of England into the second round. The wind got up on Saturday and Baltray showed its teeth, both leaders struggled compared to their first rounds, carding 76 and 75 respectively. They headed into the final day all square on 8 under par but by the par 5 6th Clews had opened up a 2 shot lead. The 11th was a turning point however; Clews 3 putted for par while Dunne held a 10 foot put to get up and down for birdie. From then on Clews struggled on the greens and fell two shots behind Dunne alongside Lianna Bailey (England) by the 15th.

Revive Active Fourball

Commiserations to Revive Active Fourball team who lost overall to County Louth Golf Club on Bank Holiday Monday.

The home pairings of Tara Duggan and Elaine McGloughlin and Pauline Gaughran and Mary Taaffe put up a brave fight but unfortunately lost on 16th with Joan McDonnell and Ronnie O’Loghlen being called in on the 18th.

The away pairings, Ciara Boylan and Joan O Brien fought hard coming back from 3 down twice to lose on the last putt on the 18th to go back to all square and head down the 19th, and then who knows what would have happened??

Sheila McGloughlin and Jenny Carron played extremely well and were called in on 15th having just gone 3 up with 3 to play.

Well done to Team Managers Ailish Guinan and Aileen Lane and thanks to all for their efforts.

Ladies Intermediate Cup

Commiserations to Team Managers, Vivienne Donnelly and Mervyn Frazer and team on their loss in the match on Saturday against Ashbourne in Elm Green.

A valiant fight was put up against a strong Ashbourne team with Aisling Ryan, Mary Dowling and Pauline Gaughran meeting strong opposition and unfortunately losing their matches.  Sylvia Alcock won on 15th and Nuala McMahon was 2 Up and called in after 16th.

Well done to all for their efforts and a big thank you to caddies for their help and to team managers who struggled with last minute cry offs (Mary Taaffe sprained her ankle) trying to get a team in place.

Well done and hard luck.

Ladies Junior Cup

Congratulations to Hilda Cussen’s Junior Cup team on a comprehensive win against Rush in Headfort on Sunday.

Grainne O’Connor, Mary Kenny and Tara Duggan all won their matches on 17th with Ciara Boylan winning hers on the 16th.  Sheila McGloughlin was called in all square on 16th.

Once again thanks to the caddies for their efforts and well done to the team on their win on a slow day in Headfort.

The next round is against Howth in Killeen Castle on 14th May.

Well done.
