Hugo Lennox and qualification for Olympics

We are delighted to congratulate Skerries Golf Club fellow member and member of Skerries Rugby Club, Hugo Lennox, and the rest of the Ireland Sevens team on their qualification for this summer’s Olympics Games. We’d also like to congratulate local Skerries man Sean Waddilove from Skerries Sailing Club, who together with Robert Dickson (Howth Yacht Club) recently also qualified an Irish boat for the Olympics. On June 1st 2021, we celebrated International Women’s Golf Day in style, as over 200 men, ladies, and junior members headed out on the course to compete in a mixed teams event, dressed in bright red to mark the occasion! Skerries were proud to be one of only two clubs in Ireland to be part of this, with over 68 countries and 900 locations signed up around the world to support the day. Congratulations to the winning team – Jeff Sexton, Matthew Weldon, Ellie Carr, and Aoife Donoghue.

PODCAST: State of the industry address – Golf’s return after lockdown

Irish Golfer has released an industry podcast

over the weekend to mark the anniversary of the first cessation of golf due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Access it here: https://apple.co/3c6C8Hm

or here:  https://irishgolfer.ie/podcast/2021/03/20/podcast-state-of-the-industry-address-golfs-return-after-lockdown/

With so much coverage and negative comments online and on social media around 2021 membership renewals and our return to golf, the Podcast is aimed at balancing the debate and trying to get golfers to understand the huge problems clubs are experiencing over the lockdown period.
Four guests took part in the Podcast, Pat Finn (past CEO of the GUI), Ed Pettit (MD of Carr Golf Services), Paul Vaughan ( Director of Golf at Ardglass) & Mark Ruddy (General Manager at Lucan GC). In it, they discussed a variety of topics facing golf clubs as we hopefully get back to playing in early April.
